Mission/Objectives
- Promote caring, respectful relationships between humans and animals.
- Help people develop an appreciation, sensitivity, and respect for animals.
- Raise awareness about the issue of animal cruelty and neglect in the community.
- Take steps to stop animal cruelty and neglect, and encourage law enforcement officials to prosecute those who are found guilty by upholding the laws, as well as strengthening existing laws that are designed to protect our animals.
- Educate people about the link between animal cruelty and violence toward humans.
- Provide humane education at local schools to teach the adults of tomorrow how to properly care for their animals, and how to stop the cycle of pet overpopulation by spaying and neutering.
How do we use your generous donations?
- In-House Adoption Program: Provide food, water, shelter, veterinary care, etc. for homeless animals who we foster here until wonderful, loving, forever homes are found. These are shelter animals who we may see or hear about, who we feel will be a great companion if allowed a little more time, vet care, behavior assistance, etc. We rescue these animals from the shelter, have them spayed/neutered, and take care of any medical problems they may have. We also work on behavioral issues, when needed. All of these things help ensure that the animal will find his/her way into a forever home where they will have a happy, healthy life.
- Financial Assistance: Help individuals, who could not otherwise afford it, pay for spay/neuter surgery, as well as emergency veterinary care for their pet(s). We also provide food for pets in the community through the "Meals-On-Wheels" program, which provides food for pets of low income families.
- Shelter Outreach: Help shelter animals to safety by finding suitable rescues (i.e. breed-specific rescues, senior animal rescues, and many others). By matching up these animals with rescues that can help them and give them more time to be adopted, more homeless animals are finding their way into forever homes.
- Public Awareness: There are so many animal welfare topics about which the general public has little/no knowledge. We help educate the public so that they can learn about responsible pet guardianship, and so that their children will learn from their responsible actions. Some topics we address include: the dangers of leaving animals in hot cars, why you should not chain your dog, spay/neuter awareness, the benefits of adopting a rescued pet, why senior animals make great companions, the horror of puppymills/buying animals from pet stores, the link between animal cruelty and violence toward humans, and the growing issue of dog-fighting.
- Homeless Pet/Human Matching: We keep our ears open for folks who express an interest in adopting a new companion. After discussing the responsibilities of pet guardianship and making sure that their decision to adopt a new pet has been well thought out, we get to work! We ask questions about lifestyle (very active, couch potato, etc), the size/age/other characteristics of the pet they desire, whether they want a pet that requires a lot of grooming/minimal grooming, etc. Once a pet is found at a shelter or rescue that matches their preferences, we get them in touch with the appropriate people so that they can open their home and heart to a homeless animal. We have had many senior citizens who have been especially thankful for this service we provde, as they have found loving companions to keep them company and keep them active.
- We have NO paid employees, all are volunteers. Therefore, any additional money will go to fund Humane Education programs in local schools who can not affort to implement our program, pay instructors to teach this course, and fund advertising to inform the community of our services.
