Gracie
Gracie is a sweet-as-sugar border collie/chow mix who has survived years of neglect before coming to NCARES. She came here with severe mange covering over two-thirds of her body, secondary skin infections that caused her to constantly bleed, toenails that had grown into the pads of her paws, a severe eye infection in both eyes, and was extremely malnourished. Somehow, she has not lost her ability to love and trust humans; in fact, she is an extremely affectionate girl who is loving life. She's looking better and better every day thanks to her medications and special diet, and we are so happy for her! Read more about Gracie and follow her story as it unfolds.
Einstein
Einstein is a 7-year-old Great Dane who thinks he is still a lap dog - and sometimes he is! In March 2005, he was diagnosed with advanced dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and was given only about 2 months to live. Well, 9 months later, he is still with us and is doing very well considering his health condition. Einstein is on 9 prescription medications and 4 supplements, all of which add up to a HUGE monthly medication bill! But he takes every dose like a good, spoiled boy - on a wheat hamburger bun with a slice of slightly melted cheese and all the tablets and capsules thrown inside - then he eats it in one BIG bite! We love Einstein and treasure him every day that he is with us.
